Here we are at last! Frankly, the vacation hasn’t started yet, but I’m through with exams, diplomas and annual reports. It feels great; you’d like to hop on one foot! You’re free to savour your first cup of coffee at midday or early in the morning – as you wish. You can forget alarm clocks, packed schedules, keeping late hours. You can sort out your books and papers – here come waste files! You have enough time to update your site and concentrate on research.
But these pleasures can wait, right now no nothing. Dolce far niente! Smell the flowers, relax, look at the full moon. Turn a routine dinner into a feast, make something incredibly delicious, and try an improbable recipe. You ARE free!
And no more urgent readings or tedious correcting students’ papers – good bye till September! Hard to believe but you’re free to read whatever you choose, several books at a time, the way you like. Shall I tell you what books have piled up on the bedside table? No, not now. You will allow me the pleasure of being inconsistent, won’t you? And the vacation hasn’t started yet, blissful days are still to come!
P.S. By the way, do you recognize literary allusions?

Keats in the headline, that's easy. You rendered holiday spirit very well, Irina. I need a vacation!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьУдалить... also Bryusov and Oscar Wilde. Have I missed something? :) Awesome holidays to you!!!!!!!!
ОтветитьУдалитьThanks! You have, as well as Svetlana. =) There’s someone else ciphered. Not that I did it deliberately, some authors come into my mind on their own, you know.
УдалитьCongrats! How about lying on the beach? This pleasure is not mentioned! As for P.S. I read it several times, but... (((
ОтветитьУдалитьSomehow I missed it back then, sorry.
УдалитьNo one recognized "Alice in Wonferland": here come waste files! Don't you remeber poor Lizard Bill? Here comes Bill! No words are enough to express my love; I am fascinated, I adore, I marvel at, I admire, I revel in this book!!!!!!!!
You reminded me of the liberated feeling when I became completely free from the commitment of my study and then from my part-time job. Being idle is needed sometimes to catch your breath after long hard works and before choosing things you really want to do with lots of possibilities. The title reminded me of Ode on Indolence by Keats, though I only know the name. Enjoy your summer holidays to your heart’s content, Irina.
